The Roaches, Luds Church and Hen Cloud - An 8 mile circular route taking in woodland, rocks, eerie chasms and breathtaking views over the Cheshire Plains. The Roaches is a rocky ridge that rises steeply to 505m and home to Doxley Pool where mermaid Jenny Greenteeth waits for unsuspecting hikers, pulling them into her waters to their death! If you manage to escape Jenny we'll head up to the trig before desending to Luds Church, an atmospheric, moss covered chasm. The rocks on either side reach 18m in height which once sheltered 15th century outlaws and religious dissidents. A truly magical place. After hiking back with views towards tittesworth reservoir, and if you still have some energy, we can walk to the summit of hen cloud (its worth the effort) and view the surrounding counties of Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire.
