About the Event

The Roaches, Luds Church and Hen Cloud - An 8 mile circular route taking in woodland, rocks, eerie chasms and breathtaking views over the Cheshire Plains. The Roaches is a rocky ridge that rises steeply to 505m and home to Doxley Pool where mermaid Jenny Greenteeth waits for unsuspecting hikers, pulling them into her waters to their death! If you manage to escape Jenny we'll head up to the trig before desending to Luds Church, an atmospheric, moss covered chasm.  The rocks on either side reach 18m in height which once sheltered 15th century outlaws and religious dissidents. A truly magical place. After hiking back with views towards tittesworth reservoir, and if you still have some energy, we can walk to the summit of hen cloud (its worth the effort) and view the surrounding counties of Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire.  Dependant on the day and conditions, this route may be 'reversed' with the starting at Hen Cloud instead.

We cant wait to share this walk with you, its been a long time coming. We shall be meeting at 9am at the gate next to the main layby directly below Don Whillans Hut (see map) Postcode - ST13 8UA - Caution this can get busy, but if we arrive early from 8.30am onward we should no problem.

If you know you are unable to attend nearer the time, please let us know ASAP, there is a keen interest (and waiting list) in this event and we would hate for someone to lose the chance to join us.  Please register each person individually so we can monitor numbers.

Come rain or shine this event will take place and while ever the current guidelines allow us.  Onward!!
